ASSOCIATION OF CHARTERED CERTIFIED ACCOUNTANTS ACCA - PROFESSIONAL LEVEL
The ACCA qualification is the fastest growing accountancy qualification in the world and in the UK is one of the recognised accountancy qualifications for Companies Act purposes.
Within the ACCA there is a strong focus on professional values, ethics and governance skills which are essential as the accountancy profession moves towards strengthened codes of conduct, regulation and legislation with an increasing focus on professionalism and ethics
in accounting.
On completing the course, all you need from your employer is the chance to apply your learning and build up your practical experience. No need for costly time off work to attend college or to study for exams. No risk to the employer about whether you will be able to complete your studies. Your focus can move to maximising your experience in the workplace an attractive proposition to any potential employer.
The course is taught by professionally qualified accountants with significant experience of working as accountants, auditors and tax advisers. Feedback from students has consistently rated Leeds Met Accounting & Finance tuition as amongst the best in the sector and our international students have praised the services offered by the University in a recent independent survey.
To supplement the ACCA modules and get you ready for the workplace the full time course also includes Professional Practice sessions which aim to help you focus your career ambitions, apply for jobs and develop the skills youll need to be a successful accounting professional. The course offers excellent value for money given the amount of tuition provided, the input on employability and the great range of facilities available in a University environment.
Not only will we train you to be a good accountant, but also an accountant that's good. As part of your ethical development, students are required to complete the Professional Ethics module, developed by ACCA. This will give you exposure to a range of ethical perspectives and includes several self-tests which require you to reflect on your own ethical behaviour and values. You then apply what you have learned in a case study where you experience an audit situation from two points of view - that of the auditor and the corporate financial accountant.
You are given access to the Professional Ethics module as soon as you become eligible to take Paper P1, Governance, Risk and Ethics. It is recommended that you take the Professional Ethics module at the same time as, or before, the Governance, Risk and Ethics paper.
There are two important steps to becoming a professional accountant: passing exams and undertaking relevant work experience. Both the exams and the experience requirements are set and approved by ACCA and meet industry requirements. This ensures that your qualification is rigorous, business focused and delivers the skills that employers seek.
Students have full access to the University Careers Service during their studies and for five years after completing the course, helping you to plan to develop your career goals.
Important external requirement: Students must be registered and have claimed any exemptions from ACCA by the end of July in order to join the course in September.
Note: For students who have not completed all F level ACCA papers, there is the opportunity to study for these papers part-time at Leeds Metropolitan University and then progress onto this course.
If you have appropriate qualifications you may be considered for advanced entry onto your chosen degree course. To find out more or to make an appointment to discuss your options, please visit our Education Guidance pages.
