About Your Course
This course is designed for part-time students from a variety of backgrounds, who wish to begin or develop a career in human resource management.

It aims to develop critical, competent and reflective practitioners who can perform effectively within a business partnership perspective and demonstrate the capabilities of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's `thinking performer'. It seeks to facilitate the knowledge and understanding of a broad range of HR, managerial and business principles and practices, as well as the development of related skills and competencies.

We have been successfully delivering personnel and HR programmes for over 40 years and the quality of provision has been recognised by the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) and other external bodies including the Quality Assurance Agency. Many large employers in the region continue to support the programme, including Leeds City Council and W M Morrison Supermarkets PLC.

On successful completion of the course, you can continue your studies and top-up the qualification to our MA in Human Resource Management.

Benefits of studying this course
We have been successfully delivering personnel and HR programmes for over 40 years and the quality of provision has been recognised by the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) and other external bodies including QAA. Many large employers in the region continue to support the programme, including Leeds City Council and Morrisons.

Members of the course team have strong links with CIPD at local and national level. The core teaching team have considerable experience of teaching on postgraduate and professional programmes, as well as HR practitioner experience. Many staff are research active including Professor Jim Stewart and Professor Jeff Gold, who are authors of leading textbooks in the HRM & HRD field. CIPD have recently approved a version of the programme to be delivered in Moscow.

Assessment
Assessment is through a combination of coursework, examinations and a management report.
Teaching & Learning
The teaching learning and assessment strategy is based on a threefold pattern of learning, that is, a taught programme, directed study and independent study. These three elements of study are combined to give a
total number of 100 learning hours (10M level points) per module or multiple thereof.

Your Future
Future Career
If you successfully complete all of the modules you will also achieve CIPD's Advanced Level Diploma in HRM. Successful completion provides you with the knowledge requirements necessary for a professional level of membership of CIPD (Associate, Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow), which is highly sought after by employers.

Students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma can also continue their studies and top-up the qualification to our MA in Human Resource Management.

Applicants may be required to undertake additional English language courses. The University provides excellent support for such students.

UK & EU Fees Entry 2012

Part-time, year one typically £33.33 per credit-point
The total cost of a Part-time course is determined by the number of modules you take in an academic year. Modules are made up of credit-points, and Part-time fees are typically quoted as fee-per-credit-point.

To calculate the typical cost of study: Fee-per-credit-point (e.g £33.33) x credit-points per module (e.g20) = module cost of £666.6. If you study 4 modules in a year the cost would be £2666.4 for that year.

The fee shown here is the 'gross' fee for new students starting in the 2012/13 academic year, before the application of any scholarship or discount. A scholarship of £1,500 is available to new full-time students studying an MA, MSC or MBA (180 credits) who are eligible to pay Home/EU fees. For students studying for an award such as a Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits), Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits), or part-time, a pro rata scholarship is available. The table below provides further details:

Equivalent or Lower Qualification (ELQ) Students
Higher fees apply for ELQ students. You may be an ELQ student if you already have a BA/BSc and want to enrol on another Bachelors level course; if you already have an MA/MSc and want to enrol on a Bachelors level course OR if you already have an MA/MSc and want to enrol on another taught Masters level course.
