Course Overview
Computer forensics is the analysis of information contained within or created by computer systems, typically in the interest of working out what happened, when it happened, how it happened, and who was involved. Fundamental to this is the understanding of computer systems and the broader computing field. On this course you will gain expertise in the use of computer forensic tools and will develop an understanding of the motivation for crimes. You will also work with lawyers, alongside legal and computing experts, to gain experience of preparing work for use by courts and presenting that work in court.

Teaching/Learning
Alongside core studies, you will undertake a substantial amount of project work enabling specialism in an area related to your own aspirations. You will be allocated an academic coach to guide and support you from enrolment to completion of your studies.
Assessment
You will work on practical case studies and tackle real-world design briefs to develop a portfolio of creative, industry-related professional skills. Assessment is integrated with these activities and is therefore mostly based on coursework. As your project work progresses your tutors will provide you with interim assessment marks and coach you towards achieving your full potential.
Career Opportunities
There is a growing demand for forensics specialists from government and law enforcement agencies, as well as from most commercial organisations who wish to ensure that electronic systems are used correctly by their employees. Such organisations often emply forensics consultancies and these businesses increasingly demand trained specialists. Professional certification in this area includes certified computer crime investigator, certified computer forensics technician, computer forensic computer examiner and professional certified investigator.

Entry Requirements
UCAS Tariff Points: 160 Points
Min. from 6/12 unit awards (incl. SQA Adv. Higher): 120 Points
Non-Tariff qualifications: Other acceptable qualifications include International Baccalaureate Diploma: 24 Points
Details: Applicants over 21 may not require formal qualifications but must demonstrate the motivation to succeed and the potential to complete and pass the course.

NOTE: The fees above are for entry in 2009 and are likely
to increase for entry in subsequent years. If you are a student from the Channel Islands or Isle of Man, fees
may differ. The fees listed above are annual for full-time students and per credit for part-time students. For
sandwich courses the placement year fee is £500. Eligible applicants to certain health courses can apply for a

Leeds Met Bursary:
Did you know that you could be eligible for a bursary that will contribute significantly to your financial wellbeing while you study at Leeds Met?
A bursary is a type of grant that you don't have to repay. At Leeds Met we want to invest in our students, so our bursary is open to all full-time
undergraduates who pay £3290 for annual tuition fees and receive the full Higher Education Maintenance Grant.
Bursaries for students enrolling in 2010 are: £500 in the first year of study, £800 in the second year of study and £1000 in the third
and subsequent years of study. They are paid in full in February of each year.
You can apply online for loans, grants and bursaries by visiting Student Finance Direct.
If you meet the criteria your bursary will be paid automatically, however you must remember to consent to share your information with the University when you make your application.
