Course Overview
The postgraduate Diploma in Architectural Professional Practice provides exemption from the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 3 entry requirements, opening up the route for final qualification and registration as an architect whilst working in an architect's office. During the year a series of inter-professional lectures and workshops are held in conjunction with specialists from practice and the construction industry. These are arranged as 1, 2 or 3 day study units (9 days in total) within the Leeds School of Architecture, Landscape & Design. The course is the means by which the academic content of the undergraduate and postgraduate course is integrated with the work experience of the student during the two years of practical training.

Modules
Core modules include:
Building Context
This module (year two) allows the student individually to select, develop and propose an initial design for a complex building within in an urban central, edge or village site. This work combines with the Year Two Design Workshops module and may support the Architectural Final Project.
Case Study
The Written Case Study is material selected by the student to provide tangible evidence of practical experience at a professional level. It should be based on a single project, and it is for the graduate to decide, in conjunction with the Course Leader, whether it is more representative to cover the entire span of a routine project, or alternatively to concentrate on selected events within one contract which clearly demonstrate the candidate's ability to exercise professional judgements.
Design Project
The triple module (year two) focuses upon the design development and presentation of an Architectural Design. Students will present this major design project along with their portfolio of work for the Postgraduate Diploma course as part of the requirements for the ARB/RIBA Part II examinations.Design Workshop
The design studio workshop module (year two) concentrates on the student's specific design requirements using the studio Building Context and Proposal module project. The student centred workshop will encourage the development of a learning portfolio focusing on cultural context, technical strategies and professional issues through studio based exercises.
Professional Practice & Contract Administration
The purpose of the Part 3 Examination is to assess the candidates ability to show an understanding of the Legal and organisational problems associated with the practice of architecture, in accordance with the best of available knowledge and skill, as currently practised in the profession. Full details of the scheme and requirements may be accessed through www.pedr.co.uk The purpose of the PEDR is to ensure that students passing Part 3 have gained the required professional experience in appropriate locations and of sufficient complexity to demonstrate they have the competency to discharge the duties and responsibilities of a Chartered Architect. It is also a tool for students to demonstrate compliance with the professional experience regulations and to reflect on what they have learnt during their professional experience.
