Course Overview
This course provides a comprehensive knowledge of the study of human social behaviour and experience within a social context. It is social psychological in nature. It sees all psychology as being affected by historical social, cultural and political forces. A theme of the course will be that of social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual growth. There are modules in humanistic and transpersonal psychology, the psychology of myth, the work of Jung and the psychology of religion and spirituality. It is critically oriented and will demonstrate the limitations as well as the value of conventional psychology.

Psychology and Society represents a different way of doing Psychology and of being a Psychologist.
It is the only undergraduate degree of its kind in the UK and offers a unique, varied and rich learning experience.
Psychology and Society BA (Hons) is a socially engaged, environmentally aware, spiritually literate and integrally informed undergraduate degree running at Leeds Metropolitan University's School of Social Sciences.
This course provides a comprehensive knowledge of the study of human behaviour and experience within a social context. It sees all psychology as being affected by historical social, cultural and political forces.
A theme of the course will be that of social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual growth. There are modules in consciousness studies, psychoanalysis, societal psychology, humanistic and transpersonal psychology, parapsychology, the psychology of myth, the work of Jung, the social psychology of music, the sacred and the social and many other exciting topics (including the opportunity to pursue your own research in the third year).
Psychology and Society is critically oriented and will demonstrate the limitations as well as the value of conventional psychology.
The course is intended to be challenging but also accessible. In the case of mature students' admissions, one's relevant life experience and interests are all taken into account. You are admitted not simply on the basis of what you already know, but on the basis of what you wish to learn and discover.
The three-year course is located within the Social Sciences Programme, and is modular in structure. The course is based on two fifteen-week semesters, with four modules in each semester.
The course is made up of Core and Elective modules. Each single module has attached to it a 15 credit point value. Each level normally comprises 8 modules, totally 120 points.

Details: GCSE English Language and Maths (grade C or above) or equivalent qualification, plus grade C or above in at least three other subjects at GCSE level.

Leeds Met Bursary:
Did you know that you could be eligible for a bursary that will contribute significantly to your financial wellbeing while you study at Leeds Met?
A bursary is a type of grant that you don't have to repay. At Leeds Met we want to invest in our students, so our bursary is open to all full-time
undergraduates who pay £3290 for annual tuition fees and receive the full Higher Education Maintenance Grant.
Bursaries for students enrolling in 2010 are: £500 in the first year of study, £800 in the second year of study and £1000 in the third
and subsequent years of study. They are paid in full in February of each year.
You can apply online for loans, grants and bursaries by visiting Student Finance Direct.
If you meet the criteria your bursary will be paid automatically, however you must remember to consent to share your information with the University when you make your application.
ELQ students:
From 2010/11 Leeds Metropolitan University is introducing higher fees for ELQ students. Equivalent or Lower Qualification (ELQ) - examples of ELQ are where a student who already has a
BA/BSc and wants to enrol on another Bachelors level course; a student who has an MA/MSc and wants to enrol on a Bachelors level course; a student who already has an MA/MSc and wants to enrol on another
taught Masters level course.
