About Your Course
The Postgraduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) is designed to meet the needs of managers and aspiring managers who wish to build, progress, develop or change their careers in the field of management. The course is designed to enhance the development of your practical knowledge in key areas of business and in the contexts in which organisations operate. It aims to develop your personal and interpersonal awareness and skills.
The PGCM is also desirable for those at the outset of a managerial career who wish to acquire the functional knowledge and competence required to operate effectively as managers within organisations.
The qualification allows you to seek solutions and understanding of business and management issues faced by organisations in the modern era. The mode of delivery (one afternoon/evening per week) means that it allows you to balance the demands of work and study.

The focus is on the development of individuals capable of making a significant contribution to the successful management and, ultimately, leadership of organisations. The intention of the PGCM is to prepare and develop students for a career in management.

Financial Management & Analysis
This module provides critical understanding on conceptual framework, methodology of financial analysis, evaluation of fundamental concepts, theories of modern finance and financial performance for decision making.
Managing Data for Decision Making
The module aims to enable a manager to understand and apply numeric information in the context of progressive business problems, and to evaluate the data needs of managers.
Managing Products & Service Delivery
The module aims to provide the knowledge and skills base, and an awareness and critical understanding, of the role of systems operations management in manufacturing and service organisations.
Managing for Individual Effectiveness
The module aims to develop self-effectiveness within the context of work and other social networks. Critical engagement with key behavioural concepts will help identify issues for effectiveness at work and for self-development and career management.
Marketing in Context
The module aims to provide a thorough grounding in the marketing-customer interface, for internal and external customers, and a critical appreciation of the external contexts and perspectives which influence this.

Assessment
A variety of assessment methods are used for this programme. All assignments require students to relate aspects of the module to their own work/organisational experiences. The assessment pattern is also designed to reflect the learning styles and preferences of a broad range of student participants and to provide a balanced and manageable assessment loading.
Teaching & Learning
Students will utilise individual work and learning experiences in the critical evaluation of theory and in the application of theory to the workplace. Learning will take place through class contact and through accessing independent learning resources as well as reflecting on workplace experience and the opportunity to take part in a business simulation. It is expected that students will critically reflect on their workplace experiences in the light of formal programmed learning activity. They will also, conversely, be expected to develop their critical and analytical capabilities by reflecting on the theoretical and philosophical foundations of the formal programme in the light of practical experience.
This critical reflection will be further promoted through the assessment strategy, which will also seek, in all cases, to apply relevant programmed knowledge to experience in the world of work and organisation.

The total cost of a Part-time course is determined by the number of modules you take in an academic year. Modules are made up of credit-points, and Part-time fees are typically quoted as fee-per-credit-point.
To calculate the typical cost of study: Fee-per-credit-point (e.g £44.44) x credit-points per module (e.g20) = module cost of £888.8. If you study 4 modules in a year the cost would be £3555.2 for that year.

The fee shown here is the 'gross' fee for new students starting in the 2012/13 academic year, before the application of any scholarship or discount. A scholarship of £1,500 is available to new full-time students studying an MA, MSC or MBA (180 credits) who are eligible to pay Home/EU fees. For students studying for an award such as a Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits), Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits), or part-time, a pro rata scholarship is available.
